integrative psychosynthesis

There are many forms of therapy and an abundance of theoretical knowledge. Psychosynthesis, developed by Roberto Assagioli who studied with Freud and Jung, seeks to include both the discoveries of psychoanalysis and the wisdom of a spiritual dimension, the transpersonal. The beauty of psychosynthesis is its openness to inclusivety and continuous growth. This can however be seen as a promise of unlimited potential and can become ungrounded. There is a value therefore in connecting psychosynthesis to other psychotherapeutic schools.

Assagioli saw psychosynthesis as a guiding principle that would complement other psychological approaches. Integrative Psychosynthesis draws upon humanistic, psychodynamic, Jungian, archetypal psychology and other models in an attempt to form a rich approach that includes hopes and dreams with breadth and depth.

My training and subsequent experience has emphasised an integration of theory that encourages open-mindedness and thinking imaginatively about any given situation. The inclusion of other ideas rather than being a grasping for different techniques is an opportunity to adapt the process of therapy to the specific needs of the client. This resists the temptation to see or think what ought to be seen and stays with what makes sense to the client.
